I see this scene every week when I drive to work, once in the morning and once in the late afternoon. I stopped a couple weeks ago in the morning and finally snapped some reference photos because the mist was too delicious. The basic layout of the scene is fairly accurate, but I did take creative license - raised the mountains, created the golden morning light instead of gray fog, and the barn is actually dull red (conventional and typical). The palette is desaturated while still playing with warms and cools and most of the edges are soft and broken to emphasize the gentle morning atmosphere. I absolutely loved creating this painting and am planning another that I just took a reference shot for yesterday. I love the feeling and mood that this piece evokes.
